Le Duc Tho (L), special North Vietnam chef negotiator for Vietnam-US peace talks, shakes hands 06 June 1973 in Gif-sur-Yvette near Paris with Dr Henri Kissinger, US President Nixon's advisor on national security affairs, a few days before both sides signed a cease-fire agreement bringing the Vietnam war to an end. The war ended 31 April 1975 when Saigon surrendered almost without fighting to the Viet-cong communist forces, ending the US's 15-year involvement in Vietnam. Le Duc Tho and Kissinger shared later 1973's Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts in leading their respective countries towards a cease-fire in Vietnam. (Photo by AFP)
